Science Variable Review

Science test will be May 20th. Here is the study guide.
Variable Review
Concepts:
·       A pendulum is a mass, suspended on a pivot point, free to swing.
·       A variable is anything that you can change in an experiment that might affect the outcome.
·       In a controlled experiment all variables are controlled except one, allowing the experimenter to observe the effect of that one variable on the outcome.
·       The length of a pendulum determines the number of swings in a unit of time.
·       Capacity is the maximum volume of fluid a container can hold.
·       The larger the capacity of a boat, the greater the number of passengers it can hold.
·       A system is a set of related objects that can be studied in isolation.
·       A system is a set of related objects that is working together.
·       Conducting multiple experimental trials adds validity to results.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:
After today, the kids have 18 days left of school. Negative account balance letters will be
sent home. Please ask your child if they received a letter or check their bag. Negative
balances need to be paid up before the end of the school year. You can check on campus,
email or call the school if you need to know what your child’s lunch account balance is. Hot
lunch is $1.55 per day, (milk comes with lunch) breakfast is .90 cents and snack milk or
milk with cold lunch is .25 cents.
ENRICHMENT CLASSES:
For those selected for the enrichment classes, they will begin on March 31st. The classes are
held on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 for 5 weeks. (March 31, April 7, 14, 28, and May 5th).
Parents are responsible for transportation. Letters were sent home with all of the details. If
you have any questions, please call the school.
PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS:
The Fairbank Library is celebrating Children’s Book Week on Tuesday, May 3rd. Stop by
for crafts and food from 3:45-4:30.
PTO INFORMATION:
A PTO Activity Night will be held on Wednesday, May 18th, from 3:30-5:30 for preschool-
sixth grade students. There will be a variety of outside activities including the blow-up
jumping houses. Admission charge is $5.00. Rain date is set for May 23rd. A letter will be
sent home with more details.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR SAVING BOX TOPS, CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS,
& MILK MOOLA. THEY HAVE RECENTLY BEEN USED TO PURCHASE NEW
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT (JUMPROPES, BALLS, CHALK…) PLEASE SEND TO
SCHOOL BY MAY 20TH. YOU CAN TURN THEM INTO THE GROCERY STORE
OVER THE SUMMER.

Part of the Fairbank Elementary site will be this Thursday letter. We will be moving to using less paper
copies of this letter in the next few weeks. Parents can request the paper copy if you do not have internet
access at home or work. At your child’s conference you will have a chance to request the paper copy.
