Science

We are learning about pulleys. Two types of pulleys we experimented with today were

pSingle-fixed-pulley system.
p“Single” refers to ONE pulley wheel.
p“Fixed” means ATTACHED.
pA single-fixed-pulley system uses a pulley with one wheel, and it is attached to something high, in this case a binder clip on a half-meter stick
 



pIn a movable-pulley system the pulley moves with the load.

Social Studies

We have a test TOMORROW. Please study!!!!!!!!!!! It's chapter 11.

Reading and Spelling

This week we are learning about making predictions. We will be reading the story called The Night Alone.
Mrs. Lincoln will be reading parts of it to us tomorrow. We will have to read the rest on Thursday with a partner or ourselves.

Social Studies

The students will be having a test on Tuesday.  I saw many students with books and study guide; therefore, I know they will be studying over the weekend!!!!

Science Vocabulary Quz on Friday, 1/28/11

Here are the science vocabulary words and definitions.
Lever Vocabulary
Advantage: A gain in effort or distance or a change of direction resulting
from the use of a simple machine.
Class-1 lever: A lever in which the fulcrum is between the load and the
effort.
Class-2 lever: A lever in which the load is between the fulcrum and the
effort.
Class-3 lever: A lever in which the effort is between the fulcrum and the
load.
Diagram: A drawing that describes the relationship of all the parts of a
system.
Effort: The force applied to move a load using a simple machine.
Fulcrum: The point at which a lever arm pivots.
Lever: A beam, free to pivot around a point, used to move a load.
Lever arm: A beam, free to pivot around a point.
Load: The weight or resistance that is moved using a simple machine.
Newton: The metric unit used to measure force.
Two-coordinate graph: A graph that shows relationships between two
variables.

Math

Mrs. Lincoln's math class is learning how to divide with decimals. Our first was easy, but wait until Friday!!!!

Science

We are learning about different types of levers. Today we got to experiment with Class 1, 2, and 3 levers.
We are wondering which class of lever gives the most advantage. Do you know?

Social Studies

We are reading Chapter 11 lesson 1.  We did a great job on our Test. Why? ask Mrs. Lincoln because we are learning how studying and spending more time studying.

Reading

We are reading Yangs First Thanksgiving. The Yang family has never celebrated Thanksgiving in America. Mrs. Yang isn't familiar with the oven. What's going to happen?

Greek and Latin Roots Words and Definitions

We are studying Greek and Latin roots. We will have a test over the words and their meaning on Friday, January 20th.
