Dear Fifth and Sixth Grade Parents,

Sheriff Bill Wolfgram, our  DARE officer from Buchanan County, has again set up our annual chartered bus trip to Des Moines.  We will be touring the capitol building and the State Historical museum on Friday, April 15, 2011.  The students will also perform several songs in the rotunda of the capitol.

The bus will leave from the elementary between 8:00 A.M. and 8:15 A.M.  After arriving at the capitol the students will perform their songs.  The students will need to bring a sack lunch for their noon meal.  We will eat, tour the capitol, and then visit the State Historical Museum.  We will eat supper at Burger King in Ankeny and arrive back in Fairbank between 8:00 P.M. and 8:30 P.M.  Please have arrangements made to pick your child up at the elementary school.

The students will need to bring their own money for their supper at Burger King or for any souvenirs they might wish to buy at the museum. They may wish to bring a camera to take pictures of the trip.  A disposable camera works great.

Students may bring snacks and drinks with caps or lids (please send decaffeinated drinks) with them on the bus.  Videos/DVDs will be shown on the bus, but the students may also bring cards, reading materials, and CD players with headphones.  Students must remember not to bring valuables on the bus.  We will not be responsible for anything lost or stolen.    .

Just a reminder that our DARE graduation for the sixth graders will be on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 9:30 A.M.  Graduation will be held at Heartland Acres in Independence with lunch and a short celebration to follow.  Students will need to bring a sack lunch.  Students are also asked to bring a snack to share during our celebration in the afternoon. The fifth and sixth grade will be performing DARE songs at the graduation. Parents and family members are encouraged to attend the ceremony.
